Public Health are pleased to announce a new free training offer for frontline staff and volunteers.

The training is for frontline staff and volunteers who interact with older adults in a community setting or through home visits.

This one day course will develop your skills and knowledge to support the nutrition needs of older adults, identify undernutrition risk, and understand support and referral pathways available. There is the option for attendees to use their learning to train others if they wish to, and resources will be made available to do this.

Evidence from a similar programme led by Age UK Salford showed positive outcomes for 80% of older adults at risk of malnutrition. As well as the intended benefit for older adults, this is a valuable development opportunity for frontline staff and volunteers.

The training is delivered by Jasmine Carbon, Principal Community Dietitian at Guy’s & St Thomas’ Hospital (GSTT).

What does it cover?

• Nutrition for older adults – healthy eating guidance, hydration requirements and challenges in achieving this
• Undernutrition – causes, signs and consequences
• How to screen for undernutrition in a community setting using the Patients Association Nutrition Checklist (PANC) tool
• Referral pathways and support available in Southwark

When and where?

Thursday 20th November 9:30am – 5:00pm Southwark Council, 160 Tooley Street, SE1 2QH
