On the 24th of September the Older People’s Network had our first in-person learning day on financial support for older people and their carers at the PPL Hub

Session 1: Citizens Advice
Kymberly Goh from Citizens Advice spoke to us about the benefits that older people and their carers may be able to claim, as well outlined some case studies of how they have helped people.
Session 2: Age UK Lewisham and Southwark
David Colbran from Age UK Lewisham and Southwark spoke to us about the Ageing Well contract.
Session 3: Southwark Pensioners Centre
Southwark Pensioners Centres Presentation
Cathy Depleiss from Southwark Pensioners Centre spoke to us about the history of the organisation and their current projects including their advice service and their energy and outreach service.
Session 4: Peer support and story swapping
Some common challenges that we discussed in our groups was that it was difficult to support people when so much is online, as well as giving people the confidence to admit when they need help. We also looked at some solutions that people have found to overcoming some of these problems. Some helpful suggestion included; using letters through doors, or meeting people where they felt most comfortable, to build a trusted relationship.
