Trustees and unpaid Directors play one of the most vital roles in the community and voluntary sector. They hold ultimate responsibility for organisations’ decisions and actions. In the vast majority of organisations, they are also doing the vital frontline work.
We know how difficult it can be for individuals to step into their first Trustee or Director role, and for organisations to recruit high-quality individuals and support them to flourish. That’s why we’ve designed this new training programme to support people on both sides of this crucial relationship.
Two parallel cohorts will come together over five weeks this November/December:
VCS groups in Southwark will learn all about how to:
- optimise governance processes internally
- recruit diverse and highly qualified Trustees/Directors to their Board
- support Trustees/Directors to give their best
Prospective Trustees/Directors will learn:
- what it means to step into a governance role
- how to get the most out of it and give the most back
- how to find their perfect role
We will be running sessions online or in person every Thursday from 6th November:

For the first and final sessions, both cohorts will come together for learning and networking opportunities. The intermediate sessions are separate, allowing each cohort to dive deep into what their side of the nonprofit governance relationship looks like. Lunch will also be provided at the final session, a great opportunity to network with others on your cohort and on the other cohort!
Where sessions are running in person, the venues will be confirmed later in the year. Attending all sessions for your respective cohort will be essential, and we will be prioritising those who are able to commit to all five of their sessions.
