The Board of Trustees has appointed Anood Al-Samerai as the new Chief Executive Officer at Community Southwark.
Anood Al-Samerai is a well-known figure in Southwark where she was born and where she has been a community campaigner and local councillor for many years. Between 2010 and 2020 she was the Leader of the Opposition at Southwark Council, working with voluntary sector groups to change policies and improve services. She also brings rich experience from the VCS sector, including working as the director of an education charity.
The Chair of the Board of Community Southwark, Nicola Howard says:
The Board of Trustees are really delighted to welcome Anood to Community Southwark as our new Chief Executive. The importance of voluntary sector has never been more evident as we emerge from the pandemic, and we are confident that she will continue to build on the great work of Krzysztof and the team, and champion the vital work of the voluntary sector in Southwark.
Anood Al-Samerai says:
I am stepping down as a councillor in May and hugely excited about starting this new role on 6 June 2022. I am grateful to the current director Krzysztof Mikata-Pralat, who is departing on 17 June 2022, for leaving the organisation in such strong shape. I can’t wait to work with the trustees, staff team, volunteers and member organisations of Community Southwark to give the strongest possible support and voice for the brilliant voluntary sector in our borough.
