The organisation
Community Southwark is the umbrella body for the Voluntary and Community Sector (VCS) in Southwark. We support charities, community groups and individuals through capacity building, networks, and volunteering.
The role
We are looking for a new trustee with an understanding and specialism in HR to support and to advise the CEO in areas such as recruitment, disciplinary, and health and wellbeing.
With a staff team of 20 and a relatively new CEO, we are keen to ensure we have the best possible HR policies, procedures, and practice. This is an exciting opportunity to join and support an established organisation with a clear strategy and focus.
This role will make a real difference to how we look after our people internally, meaning we give the best possible service externally to hundreds of brilliant Voluntary and Community groups across the borough.
Our trustees should understand the Voluntary and Community Sector, have strategic vision, and good independent judgement.
We require a minimum commitment to 4 full board meetings per year, the Annual General Meeting, and 1-2 annual strategy days. In addition, there may be optional ad hoc projects.
Application Process
If you would like to apply for this post, please email anood@communitysouthwark.org with a letter, maximum of 2-sides of A4, outlining why you are interested in this role and how your experience and skills would be helpful.
Background information
Our 2022-26 strategic objectives are to:
- Enable a more impactful, collaborative, and sustainable voluntary and community sector
- Support the creation of a more inclusive, diverse, and equal Southwark
- Increase the sector’s ability to influence change no matter the size or background of an organisation or individual
Our members are not for profit groups and organisations operating in Southwark. We offer support such as training, one-to-one advice, volunteering, and hosting networks.
We are a champion for the sector and look to ensure we have a seat at the right table on its behalf. We have strong and productive links with the VCS in Southwark, its funders, Southwark Council, Partnership Southwark, and the local NHS. We also host Healthwatch Southwark and deliver a variety of other funded programmes.
Governance and the Team
We are a registered charity and a Company Limited by Guarantee. Our Board is at 9 members out of a possible 12. We continuously review our governance structures and aim for a diverse and inclusive board with the skills and experiences needed to represent the borough and Community Southwark.
Term of Office
The term of office for elected trustees is three years. At the end of this period, trustees may be nominated for a further three-year term. No trust shall serve for more than six consecutive years.
