Volunteer supporting Directors needed for start-up supporting Autistic people to thrive

The Great Autistic CIC is a new Community Interest Company committed to creating an inclusive environment for individuals with autism and learning differences. Using lived experiences, we aim to reform education and provide services like educational support, advocacy, and social activities for neurodiverse individuals.

Living with autism and learning difficulties often means experiencing isolation, bullying, and a lack of the tailored support necessary for thriving in society. The Great Autistic CIC was formed to address these challenges, creating an inclusive and empowering space for neurodiverse individuals to access advocacy, education, and community connection.

About Us:

Using lived experiences, we aim to reform education and provide services like educational support, advocacy, and social activities for neurodiverse individuals.

Planned Activities:

  • Workshops and Training Sessions focusing on life skills, employment readiness, and social communication.
  • Support Groups for parents and caregivers to share strategies and experiences. –
  • Community Events to foster inclusion, awareness, and celebrate neurodiversity.

Services to be Delivered:

  • Educational Advocacy Services  to help neurodiverse individuals navigate the education system and working with the young people and their families to be ensure that they get to right support
  • Mentoring Programs to provide personalised support for young people with autism and learning differences.
  • Resource Hubs offering information, advice, and signposting to other services.

Target Audience:

  • Age Groups: Focus on children and young people aged 16- 25 years.
  • Ethnicity and Backgrounds: Open to all ethnicities and cultural backgrounds, promoting diversity and inclusion.

Localities of Operation:

  • Initial focus on Dulwich/Camberwell and surrounding areas, with plans to expand to other parts of South London as the organisation grows.

The Role:

We are seeking 3 Supporting Directors to join our board to support us on our Start-Up Phase. As a Supporting Director, you will help shape our organisation’s governance, policies, and strategies during this exciting start-up phase.

We are particularly seeking candidates with expertise in education and legal matters to guide us in areas like compliance, safeguarding, and delivering educational support to neurodiverse communities.

No prior board experience is required—just a passion for our mission and a willingness to learn.

Key Traits We’re Looking For:

  • Integrity and reliability.
  • Openness to diverse perspectives, especially from those with SEND.
  • Strategic thinking to support long-term planning.

We welcome applicants with or without experience in:

  • Governance: Policy development, risk management, and compliance.
  • Education: Advising on curriculum design, educational frameworks, or advocacy in education for neurodiverse individuals.
  • Legal Expertise: Advising on contracts, safeguarding, and regulatory obligations.
  • Finance: Budgeting and financial planning.
  • Fundraising: Developing strategies to grow funding.
  • Social Media: Outreach and engagement.

Responsibilities:

  • Attend board meetings and contribute to decision-making.
  • Provide input in your area of expertise.
  • Support fundraising and promote our mission.
