What is a volunteer placement?
A volunteer placement offers students (usually at college or university) the opportunity to spend a period of specified time with an organisation to gain experience and fulfil the requirements of their course.
A placement is a formal arrangement between the community/voluntary group, the university and the student. Unlike regular volunteering, the student will usually be required to fulfil a number of hours. The community/voluntary group will be expected to adhere to guidelines set out by the university or college and to tailor the students tasks to their requirements. For the purposes of Employers Liability Insurance, placement volunteers are considered employees and therefore you will need to notify your insurer.
For these reasons, volunteer placements are more significant commitment for the community/voluntary organisation than standard volunteering. You can read this useful guidance for more information.
If you are interested in being added to a list we will share with placement organisers and students, please fill in the expression of interest form below.
