Volunteer organisation of the Month: Central Southwark Community Hub

Central Southwark Community Hub have managed a Foodbank for seven years and been involved in many other community projects.

Central Southwark Community Hub is our October 2019 volunteer organisation of the month!

Central Southwark Community Hub have managed a Foodbank for seven years and been involved in other community projects at various levels. They have noticed how the people who rely on them are, more often than not, in need through no fault of their own and are merely victims of circumstance.

They have opened up a community hub that gives people in need a place to visit that will help them receive some basic care provisions and give them the means to improve their own situations.

They run various services including:

1) Food Bank

They offer a warm welcoming atmosphere and tea/coffee, biscuits with free advice and signposting to other appropriate support services, helping to address the underlining cause.

2) Holiday Clubs

Holiday Activity Club facilities for children who receive free school meals during term times, but in the holidays would have to go without.

3) Community Cafe

Whether you’re a parent with toddlers, a shopper on the way home, or retired and looking for company, come and enjoy their relaxed atmosphere and tea/coffee and biscuits/cakes.

4) Turn2Us service

As intermediaries of Turn2us they help people in financial need gain access to welfare benefit, charitable and other financial help – online, by phone and face-to-face.
