What will the workshops cover?

The training has been developed as an introduction to the themes covered in the Investing in Volunteer Standard

The workshops will cover:

  • Volunteering and the law
  • Understanding volunteer policies and procedures
  • Recruiting and inducting volunteers
  • Recruiting and supporting a diverse range of volunteers
  • Digital tools for managing volunteers
  • Supporting volunteer wellbeing and development
  • Dealing with challenging volunteers
  • Making volunteering accessible to people with additional needs
  • Communicating effectively with volunteers

We also hope to hold optional, supplementary workshops on DBS checks for volunteers, corporate and skilled volunteering, accessible volunteering and measuring your volunteer programs’ impact.

Please note, the content is subject to change and where possible will be tailored to the attendees’ needs.

Useful information

Where will the workshops take place?

The workshops will take place in the Community Southwark office, in Bermondsey or online via Teams.

When will the workshops take place?

The training is anticipated to run over three half-day sessions, in person or online, with sessions held every two weeks. These will take place over February and March and will be scheduled to the best of our ability to suit attendees.

Is the training right for me?

This training is aimed at our members who would benefit from understanding the basics of volunteer management. It is also suitable for those who would like a refresher and for anyone who takes a role organising volunteering at their organisation.

Can more than one person from my organisation attend?

It depends how many people sign up, but we will definitely try to accommodate this if possible.

Do I need to attend all the workshops?

We recommend you attend all three sessions to get the most out of the training program. This is because the content builds on each session from week to week. However, we understand this isn’t always possible so please fill out the form anyway and we can discuss it further when the sessions are scheduled.

Am I guaranteed a place?

We are aiming to have a minimum of 6 organisations attend the workshops. We hope to accommodate everyone who signs up but if we are oversubscribed, we will prioritise organisations who we feel would benefit most from the training.

When will I find out if I’ve been given a place?

We aim to let you know if you have been offered a place by the 27th of January.
