Community Southwark is beginning a new chapter to help its corporate partners make the biggest impact for their staff and the charities and community groups across the borough.

Community Southwark is beginning a new chapter to help its corporate partners make the biggest impact for their staff and the charities and community groups across the borough.

Expanding on its current Involve programme, Community Southwark plans to expand its skills-based volunteering through a range of exciting corporate volunteering opportunities.

As part of the project, a cross-sector Advisory Group of leaders across the business sector and VCS will be established to help drive forward the development of the project.

Leading this work at Community Southwark is Phil Hanks, who joins in a newly-created role of Corporate Volunteering Officer. Phil brings vast experience setting up innovative community-led volunteer programmes, including for GlaxoSmithKline employees to volunteer at grassroots disability organisations. For more details on this project please contact phil@communitysouthwark.org

Our September volunteer case study looks at the difference corporate volunteers can make lending even a few hours of their time.

For the last day of Volunteer’s Week 2023 we joined Better Bankside for an Involve Team Challenge.

We joined the Better Bankside team on a sunny June morning as they got stuck in painting and gardening for volunteer’s week at Oasis Inclusive Playpark.

Multiplex is working on two contruction projects in Southwark and it's really important for us to leave a good legacy.

Conor, Involve organiser explained why even a few hours of volunteering can make a huge difference: ‘Many of the small organisations we work with are struggling with time and money. The jobs taken on by groups like Better Bankside today are things that might not get done otherwise.’

‘It’s a way to show support and recognise charities amazing work’.

Simone, painting a wooden structure says "at Informa we get 4 volunteering days a year and people tend not to use them! I love being part of Better Bankside as they make it easier to get involved. It feels great to give something back."

Better Bankside is a the Business Improvement District for Bankside, which harnesses the power of businesses and individuals to create a better place to live and work. They explain how it’s really important to give back to the local community, and the ways that volunteering allows team members to come together and develop new skills.

Nour, a woman drilling a bench, says "my younger brother has special needs to it's great to give something back to a special needs playground"
