About Repowering London’s work in Southwark

Repowering London supports local communities in London to build, manage, and benefit from renewable energy and energy efficiency projects in their neighbourhoods. We currently support ten local community energy co-operatives across London, including Lambeth Community Solar and Brixton Energy Solar in the neighbouring borough of Lambeth.

Our work in Southwark is just getting started with support and funding from Southwark Council’s Community Energy Fund. To begin with, we will plan and deliver an outreach and engagement programme with Southwark residents and look towards establishing a borough-wide community energy co-operative in the future. We will also be working in partnership with the existing local energy co-op SE24 to build enthusiasm for community energy in Southwark, and the successful candidate for this role can expect to spend some time working with SE24 volunteers and Directors as well as delivering a wider engagement programme.

Job description

  • Build capacity and engagement in Southwark
  • Identify and recruit Southwark residents who are interested in community resilience and taking action on climate change to join the project, and build their capacity as volunteers through training and mentorship
  • Build links and local partnerships with a wide range of groups and actors in the local community: associations, faith-based groups, environmental organisations, voluntary organisations, charities, youth or elderly clubs, community hubs, local businesses etc.
  • Attend regular events, meetings, and activities with volunteers and community stakeholders, including the existing SE24 co-op volunteers and directors, to raise awareness of community energy and how it links with local movements
  • Co-create and run community events, campaigns, and activities with Southwark residents
  • Refer local residents who are living in fuel poverty to relevant services.
