The Young Foundation and London Sport are working together in Tower Hamlets, Barking and Dagenham, Lambeth and Southwark to understand how people in specific communities access sport and physical activity.
This work is being done with the goal to address inequalities in physical activity and work with Londoners to understand how they could be better supported to live more active lives in their local areas, in line with London Sport’s mission of making London the most active city in the world. The Young Foundation is the UK’s home for community research and social innovation.
We will be running creative workshops with people from these communities to understand their lived experiences, and as such are looking for a selection of residents and community leaders to sign up to take part in the research.
There is no expectation for individuals to have any experience or knowledge of sport or physical activity as we are looking to recruit people with different levels of engagement in physical activity in their daily lives. Please find below details highlighting the opportunity:
Open call for Residents to participate in workshops:
Participants will be paid £20 to attend a 90-minute-long creative workshop, taking place between 16th September and 4th October.
We are looking for people to take part who are:
· Residents of Tower Hamlets, Barking and Dagenham, Lambeth or Southwark
· Aged 16 or above
· From Bangladeshi, Black Caribbean, Black African, or White British backgrounds.
In Southwark, we are specifically looking for people who are White British.

Open call for Community Leaders to participate in workshops:
We are also looking to recruit residents who are Community Leaders to take part in the research. This could include residents who run or are actively involved with events or support groups in their community. Community Leaders would also need to meet the eligibility criteria shared above. Successful applicants will receive £80 for 6 hours of their time between September and November 2024. The six hours will include two workshops of up to 90 minutes each and one final presentation event.
