What does your organisation do?

Hourglass is the only UK-wide specifically dedicated to calling time on the harm, abuse or exploitation of older people. We offer a free and confidential 24/7 Helpline for those experiencing or concerned about the abuse of an older person.

How does your organisation support and benefit the Southwark community?

We can support individuals 60 years old and over in Southwark who are experiencing or at risk of harm, abuse, and neglect. We also have a dedicated Independent Domestic Violence Advisor (IDVA) team who specialise in cases of elder domestic abuse. We can work with the older person to reduce risk, increase their safety and This works as an additional support to our 24/7 National Helpline.

What difference has the support from Community Southwark made to your charity?

Community Southwark has helped us build our network in South East London. We were introduced to crucial contacts for us to raise awareness and build referral pathways.

How can people get support from your organisation?

Contact our free and confidential 24/7 Helpline for advice, information and signposting. The Helpline can directly transfer a caller to the Community Response/IDVA team that operates in South East London if they fit our remit. Alternatively, individuals can be referred to the Community Response/IDVA team externally by a professional.

Would you recommend Community Southwark and if so why?

Yes – Good support and initiatives. Very responsive and helpful team.
