The Healthwatch Southwark (HWS) Advisory Group (AG) is a consultative body, supporting the HWS staff team to deliver local Healthwatch in the borough. It plays a key role in ensuring the involvement of local people in HWS’s work and decision-making, working with the Community Southwark Board of Trustees.
The AG advises on our strategy and priorities, helps make key decisions about how to use our powers, upholds our independence, and supports partnership working.
Where they have capacity and skills, some AG members may represent HWS at public meetings and events.
The team are looking for 8-11 people from the following categories:
- Local people with some experience of using (or trying to use) local health and/or care services on behalf of themselves or someone they care for,
- Local people who have good connections in and knowledge of different communities, or who are members of community networks and organisations, such as PPGs and TROs,
- Representatives of not-for-profit organisations with interest and expertise in working with diverse communities, promoting public voice, and improving health and social care services.
AG meetings will take place quarterly and usually last around two hours, and members will be expected to read papers in advance. It is also possible to hold additional optional topic-based meetings, and the AG may occasionally be asked to comment on decisions via email or telephone.
These are unpaid, voluntary roles, although travel expenses can be reimbursed.
