It's the penultimate day of #SmallCharitiesWeek!
Today focuses on the big impact day, small charities make on a local, national and international level.
Today, we'll highlight some of the work Community Southwark has been doing to impact the lives of our Southwark community! Starting with the:
Universal Credit Network
The Universal Credit Mitigation Project Impact Report (a collaboration between Advising Communities, Southwark Law Centre and Citizens Advice Southwark), funded by United St Saviour's Charity and the Walcot Foundation highlighted the work of our Southwark Universal Credit Network as a fantastic resource for the borough under their recommendation for local co-ordination and information exchange.
The aim of the network is to provide an information sharing platform for voluntary and community sector organisations who are supporting residents being adversely affected by the introduction of Universal Credit.
People affected by the introduction of Universal Credit have needs around advice, food poverty, health and wellbeing – thus there are multiple entry points to support from the VCS and demand is set to increase over the next few years.
The network provides the space to hear updates on the latest changes to Universal Credit, to raise emerging issues and to ask specialist advisers how to mitigate against their impact.
It is a way to hear about other services to signpost residents to and provides the setting for workers who have become "accidental advice providers" to be able to discuss the issues they face.
Please join us for the next Southwark Universal Credit Network meeting:
10am on Wednesday 10th July at Cambridge House.
