Link Age Southwark are proud to announce their new Hospital Buddy Project.
In partnership with Adult Social Care, Link Age Southwark is proud to provide support to older people who are going into hospital for planned surgery by matching them with a volunteer Hospital Buddy!
The Hospital Buddy will get in touch prior to admission and will stay in-touch via home visits and telephone calls for up to 12 weeks after discharge from hospital. The aim is to provide some companionship and support at a time when people might feel most isolated and vulnerable.
Our wonderful volunteers are able to help plan for admission such as going through any hospital information and packing a bag. They will continue to support on discharge and can provide information about other local groups and organisations who may be able to offer ongoing services.
Eligibility criteria
- Resident of Southwark
- Over the age of 60
- Awaiting an operation or recently had one
- In need of additional support due to living alone or with a dependent other
