The Bede House is seeking support workers to join our Learning Disabilities team. Support workers are part of a flexible team that works with adults who have learning disabilities and use the Bede Centre in Bermondsey SE16.
They work in a person-centred way to enable people with learning disabilities to become as independent as possible, make their own choices, and be fully part of the community. They do this by supporting them to develop and maintain skills, try new opportunities, make and maintain friendships and spend their time in ways valued by them and the community. They partner with other local charities to provide as many social, volunteering, and work opportunities as possible to those who come to Bede.
Our core service runs Monday-Friday, 9:30am-3:30pm, and we also support other projects and social clubs in the late afternoons. We currently have the following shifts available, from 9:30am to 3:30pm on each day:
– Tuesdays x 2
– Wednesdays
– Thursdays
– Fridays
At the moment men are underrepresented in our team, and we would therefore particularly welcome male applicants.
How to apply
If you are interested in applying, please email us at admin@bedehouse.org with answers to the following questions.
1. How would you ensure that a person with learning disabilities’ choices are respected and heard?
2. What interests and skills do you have that could be useful in leading activities for people with learning disabilities?
3. We love to use our local community as much as possible at Bede. Please outline a half day activity you might suggest to do with a person you were supporting 1-1, that would get the most out of our local area. The activity would begin and end at the Bede Centre, postcode SE16 2BS.
Deadline for applications is 5pm, Tuesday 5th November 2024.
Interviews will be held on Wednesday 13th and Thursday 14th November 2024.
If you are successful in getting through this first stage, we will ask you to fill out an application form with your full employment history, and to provide ID documents to show you are eligible to work in the UK. At interview we will invite you to spend a taster day at our Centre. You will get the chance to meet some of our clients, and this will be a chance to assess how you meet the requirement in the job description.
Bede works with children and adults at risk of harm, and we have Safer Recruitment policies and procedures in place to ensure that they are protected from abuse. These roles are subject to an enhanced DBS and barred list check.
