Community and Volunteer Engagement Officer

LOVO is a not-for-profit organisation located in Southwark but working across London to engage, equip and empower vulnerable women and their families. We have received a multi-year funding to run a volunteering and ESOL programme for local migrant and refugee women with language barrier. Due to the vulnerability and safeguarding issues relating to these women, this job best suite a woman with an understanding of the challenges women in these communities are facing.

Time of work
• 14 hours per week
• Between £15 – £16:50 p/h (Depending on experience, freelance)
• 3years
• Over 2 days a week
• Working in-person and sometimes remotely when required
• Days of work – Tues &Thursdays at our site in Southwark, London. There will also be need for flexibility as you will sometimes be required to work on some other weekdays, weekends or evenings, but this will be agreed in advance.

About Community engagement

We are looking for someone who can support the organisation’s outreach for new members, volunteers, and potential partners. We have several local partners currently and would like to grow our joint working in the community to engage new referrals and service participants for the weekly women’s day centre and courses. We would particularly like to work with training providers, other women led groups, day centres across London, as well as building on our mental health and wellbeing partners.
This role will involve identifying and building relationships with existing and new partners. There will also be an element of supporting the ongoing development of our outreach and engagement activities, such as organisational visits, designing literature and online content to post, organising community engagement events, and engaging face to face in the local community.
This role will therefore include an element of monitoring and information gathering across our outreach activities, partnerships, services including the use of simple monitoring and evaluation processes which will help us maintain an overview of our impact.
There will also be an element of report writing to give feedback to the funders, once the person is immersed in the role and the services.

About Volunteers engagement
LOVO currently has a small hardworking team of volunteers, some of whom are local
community members and participants.
The successful applicant will oversee the recruitment and management of our volunteers using our existing processes and systems for induction and management, as well as to actively seek and train them from our existing service users on our ESOL programme plus others in the community. You will act as point of contact for volunteers and be able to support them in their roles with us.

Essential skills
Educated to at least up to level 3 and above in a relevant discipline with experience in volunteering or Community engagement to promote LOVO and recruit new service users, partners etc.
A general understanding of relevant health and safety requirements for community events and volunteering.
Competent use of MS Office to create monitoring reports, presentations, and spreadsheets.
Ability to use social media platforms to promote LOVO activities etc.
Application and understanding of different community engagement approaches and techniques Confident and sensitive in addressing different audiences and facilitating discussions in a range of settings.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Work to a budget and monitor expenditure
Knowledge of community engagement and its relevance to public policy and social responsibility

Personal Qualities
Able to work as part of a team with colleagues, councillors, and partner organisations.
Able to act in a lone worker capacity when required with suitable support.
Emotional intelligence, able to manage competing interests and propose a way forward.
Able to meet targets and deadlines.
