Javell Grant – Younger Volunteer of the Year 2021

Javell has been volunteering his time and effort with Elevated Minds April 2019. Click to read what about his work and why he was nominated.

Javell was nominated for Younger Volunteer of the Year  at our 2021 Southwark Stars for the fantastic work he’s been doing with Elevated Minds CIC.

Read some words from the team at Elevated Minds about Javell’s work and why he was nominated.

“Javell volunteers as part of the youth advisory board for Elevated Minds CIC. The board is called Elevate2Success.

Javell has been volunteering his time and effort with Elevated Minds since we met him when delivering an intervention at his school STAC in April 2019. He has and continues to represent Elevated Minds in delivering Stop & Search training to new recruits for the MET Police. Javell has presented to over 50 officers at the Greater Manchester Police AGM; he has co-hosted with another Elevated Minds’ young person for the Stephen Lawrence Day celebrations and he helped to design the Restorative Approaches to Stop & Search – Breaking Barriers: Building Bridges programme which is currently being developed with the MET police.

Javell is a positive role model to his friends and younger pupils. He was on the verge of permanent exclusion from school when we met him, experiencing temporary exclusions and a reduced timetable on a weekly basis. Since joining Elevated Minds he has turned his life around and has become a prefect at his school and was given the opportunity to wear a Head Boys tie for an agreed period of time. The school celebrates Javell’s successes through good mentions in assemblies and to staff. “

We are thrilled to have presented this award to such a deserving individual – Thank you for all you do!
