Healthy Eating and Active Lifestyles for Diabetes (HEAL-D) in African and Caribbean communities

Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Trust Nutrition and Dietetic team deliver HEAL-D, a culturally tailored, structured education programme, across South London.

HEAL-D has been designed to help and empower people of African and Caribbean heritage, who are living with type 2 diabetes, to take charge of their health while enjoying the food from their culture. The seven-week programme currently offers online group-based courses. The seven 2-hour sessions include topics on:

o Understanding diabetes
o Healthy lifestyle and nutrition coaching
o Cooking workshop
o Activity guides
o Goal setting
o 1-hour physical activity sessions in 5 of the weeks.
