Volunteer Retail Assistant

Scope are a disability equality charity. Scope won't stop until they achieve a society where all disabled people enjoy equality and fairness. At home. At school. At work. In our communities. They are currently in desparate need for some volunteers to help out at their Camberwell charity shop. Without their charity shops, we wouldn’t be able to raise millions of pounds to fund their work with disabled people and their families.

What day: Any

When: (Mon-Sat 9am-5:30pm, Sun 10am-4pm)

Minimum Commitment: 2 hours a week (ideally for 3 months)

Where: Scope, 42 Denmark Hill Road, London SE5 8RZ

About your organisation 

Scope provide practical advice and emotional support whenever people need it most. We do this through our Scope helpline, our online community, a range of employment services, community engagement programmes, and more. All of our services are developed to achieve our strategy, Everyday Equality. 

We use our collective power to change attitudes and end injustice. And we campaign relentlessly to create a fairer society.

Main activities/tasks:

The role can be varied and will depend on the strengths and preferences of the potential volunteer. However, there is scope to get involved in all aspects of the charity shop operation including:

  • Stock taking 
  • Window dressing and displays
  • Being on the till
  • Steaming, organising and sorting through the clothes 
  • Administration
  • Welcoming customers and answering their queries
  • Informing the shop manager if there is a health and safety incident 
  • Receiving donations

Who are we looking for?

People with:

  • a willingness to learn
  • patience
  • moderate spoken English
  • enthusiasm 
  • good reliability

What the volunteer would gain from the volunteering opportunity:

  • helping to make a difference in the community 

Other information:

  • They can involve volunteers from the age of 14 but require permission from a parent/ guardian for anybody under the age of 18.
  • Reimbursement of travel expenses up to £5 a day. 
  • Regular check-ins with a named supervisor
