The Brunel Museum are looking for enthusiastic and committed individuals to join our growing team of Museum Assistants and Tour Guides to help with the smooth day to day running of the museum.

Time Commitment: 1/2 day a week 10.00am – 1.30pm or 1.30pm-5.00pm.  We also have evening volunteer opportunities on certain concert, theatre and opera nights from 6pm-9.30pm. 

About The Brunel Museum
The Museum is an educational charity and tells the story of one of the world’s great engineering dynasties. Brunel organised the world’s first underground concert party here in 1827, and the Museum celebrates and interprets music and theatre as well as engineering. The museum's mission is to preserve and share widely the ground-breaking stories of the Thames Tunnel project and the outstanding achievements of the Brunel family and their relevance to our lives today. We inspire communities through exploration, learning and performance.
VOLUNTEER ROLES AVAILABLE
MUSEUM ASSISTANTS
We are looking for engaging volunteers to welcome visitors to the museum and provide a friendly front of house environment. Responsibilities include:
  • Opening and closing the museum
  • Delivering a short introduction to the museum
  • Fielding enquiries in person or over the phone
  • Processing admissions
  • Selling merchandise Invigilating temporary exhibitions
  • Serve refreshments in our Café Gallery
  • Manage social media outlets such as Twitter and Facebook
  • Ensuring the wellbeing of museum visitors
  • Help deliver the museum’s innovative events programme 
TOUR GUIDES

We are looking for enthusiastic, outgoing and committed individuals to join our growing team of Volunteer Tour Guides to help deliver the museum’s popular London Walking tours for one half day a week/ weekend. We deliver themed guided tours about the Brunel family’s amazing achievements and the history of Rotherhithe. Heritage boat trips from Embankment take place every morning and the riverside walks from Rotherhithe Station on Sunday and Monday mornings and Tuesday evenings.

As a Volunteer Tour Guide you will be responsible for safely leading a group of 20-30 members of the general public. Experience in delivering tours and cash handling is desirable but not essential, training will be provided. We are able to reimburse volunteers for any out of pocket expenses. Volunteers will also have the opportunity to deliver special ‘one-off’ tours during Open House Weekend and other advertised events.
