Mentor a child with behavioural difficulties

Mentor a child with behavioural difficulties

Chance UK will be working with around 45 Southwark children (aged 5-12) and families over the next year and would love to get some local volunteers signed up.  Volunteer mentoring with Chance UK gives a child in London 2-4 hours of one-to-one adult time; their parent 2-4 hours of time back; and gives you an incredible experience you’ll never forget.

When: 2-4 hours a week

Minimum Commitment: 9-12 months

"I felt like I was in a bad place but I didn’t know how to get out. I just got angry all the time. Now when I feel like that I know more about how to do things that calm me down. I feel safer in myself and I’ve learned new things. " Chance UK Child

Purpose of the volunteering role

Through spending focused time with mentors one-to-one we have found that the children we work with are able to develop their skills, raise aspirations and become more confident in themselves. From visiting the park, playing football to exploring museums and creating a scrapbook mentoring is incredibly varied. The sessions you will plan as a mentor will focus on getting your child involved in new activities and learning new skills.

Mentors and staff use a solution-focused approach to grow a child’s strengths, build their self-esteem, and find positive alternatives to their challenging behaviour that could otherwise result in anti-social or criminal offending in later life.
