Homelessness Office/Administration role

Safe Connections is a resettlement service working with vulnerable rough sleepers, who do not have a local connection to the borough in which they are bedding down. Our aim is to resettle them either back to their local connection, or somewhere else where they can be safe. To achieve this, we facilitate clients to make a homelessness application to their home council or source a range of private-rented accommodation and direct-access supported housing.

Where: Employment Academy, 29 Peckham Road

When: Flexible 

Purpose of Volunteer Role:

To assist the charity in trying to find suitable accomdation

Main activites/ Tasks:

  • Searching for suitable rented properties on the internet
  • Making phone calls to letting agents and landlords, setting up viewing appointments and confirming details about the properties
  • Liaising with our current list of accommodation providers and updating the team with information about upcoming voids
  • Data input using Microsoft Excel and Outlook
  • Data input using IT systems
  • Handling enquiries and generally responding to the diverse needs of the service

Who we are looking for:

  • Basic IT skills
  • Feel confident in making calls and to have a good telephone manner
  • Comfortable and confident in engaging with our clients, both face to face and over the phone
  • Confident representing Thames Reach and our clients to external agencies via the phone

We expect all volunteers:

  • To have a non-judgemental attitude
  • To have the ability to follow Health and Safety regulations, Equal Opportunities and Confidentiality policies

What the volunteer would gain from the volunteering opportunity:

  •  Training
  • Regular feedback and supervision

Other Information:

  • We pay out-of-pocket expenses for our volunteers to cover food and travel fares. Receipts are required to claim expenses.
  • After 6 months of regular volunteering for the team, a professional reference can be provided.
