Join the Human Rights Open Day in Southwark on Wednesday 1st November to find out more about their London Communities: Human Rights programme
The British Institute of Human Rights (BIHR) are offering new, funded opportunities for community groups and not-for-profit organisations in London to learn about how human rights can help make change in your community. No prior knowledge of human rights is required.
What is the programme?
The London Communities: Human Rights Programme is a new programme funded by the Baring Foundation and led by Just Fair and the British Institute of Human Rights.
The programme aims to promote and develop the use of human rights-based approaches for London-focused civil society organisations.
At BIHR and Just Fair they believe that when community groups are supported to use international and domestic human rights law, there is an opportunity to create social justice through practical, real-world change.
They hope that by the end of the programme organisations they’ve worked with along the way are empowered to use a Human Rights Based Approach to participate in the development of policies and practices that impact the lives of their communities.
What can I expect from the Open Day?
The Open Day will include an introduction to the UK’s human rights frameworks; an opportunity to meet other community groups; and information on the programme and how to apply to be a community partner. The day will run from 9.30am – 12pm and lunch will be provided afterwards.
Who can join?
The programme has been funded to support individuals and communities facing discrimination and disadvantage in London.
How can I get involved?
They’re holding four Human Rights Open Days across different areas of London from November 2023 – February 2024. These will be an opportunity to learn more about the programme and about human rights law in the UK.
After all the Open Days, they will be opening up applications to join the programme.
