Learn how to create short, shareable videos using free online creators and apps to tell the stories of your small charity or community group

You don’t have to produce a feature-length film to clearly communicate a message to your stakeholders and audiences. Short, authentic stories have extraordinary power to inspire and motivate action.

Short videos are also suited to your audience’s busy lives and watching content on the move.

Luckily, telling the story of your work has been made simpler with an ever-expanding range of free and very low-cost apps and creators.

In this beginner’s course from Superhighways, you’ll learn how to craft tiny, digestible videos using a free online video creator. You’ll also discover apps, devices and other online tools that can help you film people speaking on camera.

This session will cover

  • Recognise what makes a good story
  • Use basic storyboarding techniques
  • Create a short online video using photos and captions
  • Choose applications for your future film making and useful accessories
  • Start planning your next video

Is this course for me?

This beginner’s course is suitable for anyone that is responsible for communicating a charitable cause’s story. You don’t have to be a ‘techie’ to take part or have any experience of making videos.

Please note priority will be given to Trust for London funded small charities & community groups in London, but places are available for other groups.

Course format

This is an online interactive live training session. You’ll take part in interactive exercises such as breakout room discussions, polls or chat conversations.

You will be asked to complete individual technical tasks on your PC or laptop. You will not be able to join this training using a mobile device. It’s likely that you will need to either create online accounts or download appropriate software, which we’ll tell you about in advance.
