This training course will help you consider whether setting up a charity is the right decision.

It will give you a basic overview of the steps for setting up a charity in England and Wales. They will also share information about alternative legal structures and address common myths and misconceptions.

NCVO is offering this course at a reduced rate of £55.

If you’d like to take advantage of their membership benefits, learn more about becoming an NCVO member. Organisations with a gross annual income of less than £30,000 can join NCVO for free.

Outcomes

By the end of the training, you’ll:

  • identify your motivations for setting up a charity
  • understand the legal parameters of setting up a charity
  • understand the key principles of different charity legal structures
  • explore other legal structures and alternatives to setting up a new organisation
  • learn the key steps to set up and register a charity in England and Wales
  • get a basic overview of the roles and responsibilities of trustees
  • explore further resources to set up a voluntary organisation.

Who should attend?

This course is for anyone thinking about setting up a new charity.

The course is not suitable for those who have already registered as a charity.

Who’s delivering the event?

Aggie Taylor is a governance consultant at NCVO. She helps charities improve their work through governance tools and training. She is also an experienced training facilitator.

Amy Walton is small charity support manager at NCVO. She helps hundreds of charities each month via our small charity helpdesk. This includes guiding charities through the process of setting up.

How will it be delivered?

This training will take place on Zoom. They will send the Zoom link with the joining instructions before the session.

The training will take place over two days and will run from 10.00 to 13.00. You’ll need to attend both days of the same course:

Day 1: Tuesday 23 July, 10:00am – 1:00pm
Day 2: Thursday 25 July, 10:00am – 1:00pm
