London Sport are interested in using non-traditional spaces – such as libraries, car parks, empty shops – to support more Londoners to be more active. They want to hear from Southwark’s VCS about the opportunities and challenges involved, and what they can do to help make this happen.

London Sport know these ‘non-traditional’ spaces are being used, but they think they could be used more to allow even more Londoners to be more active. In order to support this, they want to better understand the challenges that restrict the use of such spaces for sport and physical activity. This will allow London Sport and partners to identify, develop and implement solutions that allow these challenges to be overcome.

These online workshops will:
  1. Identify the types of non-traditional spaces that are been used in London, the non-traditional spaces that aren’t being used but could be used and the types of spaces most likely to engage inactive residents or support groups to engage more in physical activity.
  2. Discuss the challenges that restrict these spaces from being used to their full potential, with a view to identifying the 3-5 biggest challenges.
  3. Identify any trends/opportunities that might impact the use of such spaces going forwards.
  4. Identify key stakeholders who need to be involved in this work going forward.

The session is open to anyone who wishes to attend, but is most likely to be suitable for:

  • Owners / Managers of non traditional spaces that are being / can be used for physical activity
  • Community organisations who use non traditional spaces to deliver activities
  • Strategic bodies such as National Governing Bodies, Health Partnerships.

If you are interested in attending, please fill out their online form.
