Mount Anvil and Riverside Housing Association are seeking an operator for two flexible community or learning spaces located on the ground floor of a new development in Bankside.

In this session we will be taking a look at their plans and what sort of organisation they are looking for. Attendees will also have a chance to ask any questions and network with other interested groups.

There are two sessions available:

  • Thursday 2nd October, 12.30-1pm
  • Tuesday 7th November, 6-6.30pm

Both can be booked via the button below, or via the Eventbrite website.

About the plans

Friars Close, located at Bear Lane, plans to deliver new homes alongside 194 sqm of Class F ‘Local Community and Learning’ space, split between two units, which can cover a broad range of community related uses, including provision of education, art facilities or public libraries.

A planning application has been submitted to Southwark Council. It is estimated the development will be ready for occupation in Winter 2027 / Spring 2028.

The spaces are classed as ‘Local Community and Learning’ (Use Class F) and therefore could be operated in a variety of ways including:

  • provision of education
  • displays of art, museums or libraries
  • halls or meeting spaces for the local community
  • Due to fire regulations, the spaces cannot be used exclusively as an office space.

The opportunity is open to any charitable or community organisation, although preference will be given to organisations that can evidence a local connection to Bankside or Southwark. For profit businesses are welcome to apply to manage the space/s, but must show that the proposed use is beneficial to the local community.

Key details

  • 99 or 96m2 space
  • Peppercorn rent
  • Minimum 5 year lease
  • Nil Service Charge
  • Up to £50,000 is available for a further fit out of each space.

Application Process

Operators will be selected via a short tender process. Interested organisations should submit a proposal of maximum 3 pages of A4, answering their key questions.

You can see these, along with more details about the plans, via the full brochure.
