Having a robust data protection strategy for your small charity or community organisation is key to ensuring you safeguard the personal information of everyone you interact with whether they are service users, partners, donors, staff or volunteers. Join us for this introductory session to learn more about latest data protection laws and how to best embed the principles of them in your everyday working practices.

*Understanding Data Protection Laws: Find out more about GDPR & the Data Protection Act and what it means for your organisation

*Identifying Personal Data: Learn to recognise different types of personal data and how to handle them securely

*Consent and Transparency: Understand the importance of obtaining consent from service users and maintaining transparency about your data practices.

*Service Users’ Rights: Learn about the rights granted to individuals under data protection laws and how to address their requests effectively

*Data Protection and Privacy Policies: Discover what should they include & how should they be shared and communicated

*Data Processing Strategy: Learn how to create a data processing strategy & risk register with your team using our simple template

Priority is given to people working or volunteering for refugee community and equality organisations.

Is this course for me?

Everyone at a small charity or community organisation has a responsibility to keep people safe from harm. However, this will suit those with specific data protection responsibilities such as managers, project managers, trustees and communications staff.

Course format

Online technical group training

This is an online interactive live training session. You’ll take part in interactive exercises such as breakout room discussions, polls or chat conversations.

You will be asked to complete individual technical tasks on your PC or laptop. You will not be able to join this training using a mobile device. It’s likely that you will need to either create online accounts or download appropriate software, which we’ll tell you about in advance.

Sorrel Parsons is our Digital Adviser & Training Manager at Superhighways and has 15 years’ experience in supporting charities, community organisations and volunteers in the UK to communicate with the people that matter to them, demonstrate their impact and raise funds.
