This October is Menopause awareness month, and Acas are hosting a free webinar to discuss the importance of supporting those experiencing menopause at work.
The menopause usually happens between 45 and 55 years of age but it can also happen earlier or later in someone’s life. For many people symptoms last about 4 years, but in some cases symptoms can last a lot longer. Research in 2021 by Benenden Health found 23% of women who have been unwell due to menopause have left jobs, with 48% of participants in their ‘National health and wellbeing at work’ report stating menopause causes low mood and poor mental health.
Additionally, a poll by the Fawcett Society reported that a quarter of employees currently experiencing the menopause said their experience has made them more likely to leave the workforce before retirement.
