Safeguarding is a term used to denote measures to protect the health, well-being and human rights of individuals, which allow people — especially children, young people and adults at risk— to live free from abuse, harm and neglect. It is seldom out of the news these days.

If you are in a role where you come into contact with children, young people or adults at risk, you will need to understand the types of abuse that can occur, how to identify the signs that somebody might be at risk and what to do if you suspect it is happening or could happen.

This 5 hour session will provide you with the basics to understand and recognise the types of abuse that could occur. This covers different forms of physical, emotional and financial abuse, neglect and various forms of exploitation. It will cover the contents of an effective policy, procedures and actions to get you started in order to protect those in your care as well as your staff and volunteers. Signposting to further, more detailed information or accredited training will also be provided.
