In cooperation with Borough Market, Plan Zheroes runs a volunteer led surplus food collection at the market every week. Since June 2014 they have saved 28 tonnes of food - the equivalent of 56,000 meals for people in need.
Starting just before 5pm when the market closes, their team of 3-4 volunteers visit traders and gather amazing surplus fruit & veg, bread and other products. The food is brought to Plan Zheroes’ table where local charities then come to collect it.
They are looking for volunteers who are available from 4:45-6:45pm for their Saturday and/or Wednesday collections. They have a rota each month and you can expect to volunteer a couple of times a month whenever you can.
This role requires someone with energy and enthusiasm to navigate the crowded market, do a bit of lifting (although they also have a trolley) and to check, sort and record the food donated. It’s loads of fun and lasts just 1.5-2 hours.
Please email the Borough Market Coordinator, firstname.lastname@example.org, to register your interest.
