Welcome to the Big Volunteer – a programme of volunteering just for local residents to get involved in their communities in Southwark, Lewisham, Greenwich and Tower Hamlets.
Starting with a new Marathon Event, The Big Half on 4 March 2018 you will have tonnes of opportunities to volunteer at this huge event and have access to continue your volunteering journey in a local sports club, at other events in London or in a local community group.
The Big Half is a new one day Festival centred on the half marathon distance, which aims to be truly global and uniquely local in a celebration of the wonderful cultural diversity of the great city of London.
Here at Community Southwark, we are kicking off the programme and looking to recruit up to 20 Volunteers to support the race day of the Big Half.
GET INVOLVED in the BIG HALF
There are four drinks stations on The Big Half course to distribute bottles of water and energy drinks to the runners. As a Southwark volunteer you can get involved by:
• Setting up the tables on event morning
• Unpacking the water bottles ready for the arrival of the runners
• Handing water bottles to runners as they pass the water station
• Packing down the station at the end of the day once the final runners have passed
Time Commitment: Sunday 4 March 08:00 – 13:00
Location: Drinks Station 3 - Bermondsey Station or Drinks Station 4 - Surrey Quays
There are other roles across the race route in the other boroughs. Click on the Boroughs to find out more:

aged 16 – 90
have the energy to be on your feet for event (some roles are suitable for those less mobile)
we would welcome interest from people with disability and from BME groups
