Volunteer Computer Club Assistant

Volunteer Computer Club Assistant

CoolTan Arts are looking for Volunteer Assistants for their weekly Computer Club, supporting adults with mental health needs to learn basic IT skills.

CoolTan provides a free, drop-in Computer Club on Thursday mornings for a small group. The Club focuses on helping people to work through ‘Learn My Way’, a website of free online courses for digital beginners.

The Volunteer Assistant would support participants with the ‘Learn My Way’ classes, and also with other IT-related skills that participants would like to learn. The class is currently led by a Tutor, but there is the opportunity for the Volunteer Assistant to progress to running the classes themselves.

What are they looking for?
  • Someone with an interest in supporting adults with mental health needs to learn beginner IT skills.
  • A good knowledge of using computers, the internet, and be patient and enthusiastic about teaching those skills to others.
  • CoolTan particularly welcomes volunteers with disabilities and those with lived experience of mental distress.
  • You will be available for the Computer Club on Thursday mornings between 11am and 1pm.
Practical Considerations

Volunteers are required to train as Digital Champions before assisting in the class. This is a short course you can take in your own time, and covers how to inspire people in your community to enhance their digital skills. More information is available here: www.learnmyway.com/courses/how-to-be-a-digital-champion.

CoolTan Arts will cover travel expenses, and we will pay up to the cost of a One Day Bus Pass if needed.
