'Better use of community asset to revitalise communities’ was one of the 4 strategic priorities set out in the 2016 Voluntary and Community Sector Strategy. An action plan has been drawn up to implement the recommendations of the strategy.
The availability and appropriateness of a range of premises across the borough, which are also affordable, is a key component of this priority. Although mapping was carried out some years ago, it is now out of date.
Annecdotally we know from some of the organisations that we talk to that securing safe and accessible premises is difficult and impacts of their ability to deliver the support and services that the community needs. In other situations we know that organisations have space or know which could be shared will another organisation.
We have drawn up a short survey that we hope voluntary organisations in Southwark will complete to help us better understand the rapidly changing public and private property market in Southwark. This will enable us to provide firmer evidence about what is working and what needs to change to help make this particular strategic priorty a success.
